Sue Manger

I am currently finishing my Book about Casting – in fact it will be in TWO Books. Watch this space!

In the meantime I have  spent a lot of time honing and teaching Auditioning  for the Screen Techniques, assisting actors with their Self-Tests, and giving one- on -one  pre-audition workouts for various Agents in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Apart from  my teaching  “Audition Techniques for Film and Television ” recently at The Actors Workshop, I have and will be, giving Workshops for FILM TVI for Craig and Dominique  McMahon in Brisbane this October.

I mentored  Agent, Karoline Ellis, of KEManagement in Queensland for over two years until recently.  Karoline was recommended to me by Lyn Kidd of The Actors Workshop, ( and as I am a former  Agent many moons ago in Sydney I still know the pitfalls)     Karoline will be my  media Manager for the Book.

KEManagement and myself gave  “Starting Out” and “Getting The Part” Workshops for performers who need to know the “nuts and bolts” of the Industry which is becoming increasingly fast-paced and if a performer does not have the pics, the resume, the showreel ready at all times  – they miss out!

QUT  giving  4-5hrs of  intense techniques to the 3rd year Graduate class on how  to survive a Casting Session – Brenton Thwaites and Anna McGahan certainly did.

In July  2010 I assisted Anousha Zarkesh in some initial screen tests for “Slide” the television series shot in Brisbane.

Since arriving back in Brisbane in November 2008 from Sydney I had been working with Ben Parkinson Casting on setting up “The Audition Showcase” Workshops and Seminars, and offering Consultancy advice to Ben.

I auditioned Queensland actors for Anousha Zarkesh on the feature film  “Tomorrow When The War Began”

Was part of a team – Lyn Kidd of The Actors Workshop, Jane Teresa Anderson, and Bev Ryan of “Honestly Woman” to provide On Camera advice to Writers for a “Media Masterclass”.

Four nights a week and Saturday afternoons were spent over eight weeks teaching Audition Techniques for the Screen for Craig and Dominique McMahon of Film TV at the Metro Arts in Brisbane.

Appeared as a Casting Consultant on a Webinar organised by Brendan Glanville of The Australian Acting Academy.

Conducted a half-day course of Audition Techniques for the Screen for the Third Year Graduates from QUT.

Adelaide – October 09 – held two Workshops for Beginners in Auditioning for the Screen for Tyson Bach of the Burnside Library.

From April 2008 for four months I worked in Sydney full-time for Anousha Zarkesh on various film and television projects including “The Cut” “Saved” “Accidents Happen” “Road Train” “Beautiful Kate”.

Prior to that I was Casting Associate for “McLeod’s Daughters” and spent seven years in South Australia  on the eight series 2001-2008.

During the time in South Australia, I devised and taught Audition Techniques for the Screen with Lyn Pike; I spent a week in Brisbane once a year to take a 40-hour extensive Audition Techniques Workshop especially devised for the Actors Workshop. ( I have a Certificate 1V in Training and Assessment and a Blue Card) 2009 was the tenth year!

During my now rather long career, I was Casting Director for Grundy Television, Sydney, for nine years and worked on such productions as “Sons and Daughters” “Richmond Hill” “Tanamera” The Young Doctors” “The Restless Years” “Bellamy” “Waterloo Station”  “Possession” the Sydney associate for “Neighbours” and “Prisoner” (to name a few)

Extensive other work in television as a Production Assistant , as an Agent, and  as a freelance Casting Consultant in Brisbane, working on many Commercials and some short films.   I also assisted  Elaine Holland and Stacey Testro in their Agencies.

Prior to working in Australia, I worked in Stage Management in Repertory Theatre in Worthing, Sussex, the West End, London, on tour with stage shows, in Canada for

Expo 67. And  Les Grands Ballets Canadiens on tour mid-West USA.

For a few years I was also secretary to Sean Connery and Diane Cilento and even worked in the Beatles office in London as a Fan letter opener!
